When we first hiked up Hawksbill Mountain in Linville Gorge, North Carolina, nothing could have prepared us for the stunning vistas up top. I’ve never seen so many blooming wild rhododendrons in one spot. I jumped for joy, I ran all over the top of the mountain, I couldn’t get enough of it. Shades of pink everywhere, an ocean of pink amidst the lush green, teal, and blue serene mountains.
I wanted to capture the magic of it: how unreal it felt to be there, seeing such a breathtaking view, the flowers in every direction, the ancient volcanic rock formations, the quiet solitude of the gorge. Linville Gorge is truly special. Magical. Ancient. Wise. Unique and unparalleled. Soft and glowy. Powerful. Feminine. I wanted to create a piece of art with all of that in it. "Linville Gorge in Bloom" is the result.
