Photos don’t do this painting justice: it’s dramatic in its verticality, dramatic in color, and bold in brushstrokes. In person, you can see the semi-transparent quality of the canvas in spots where the paint layers are light. I wanted the waterfall to be dynamic, just as it is in real life - ever flowing, ever changing. The way the light catches on just parts of it, while other parts are in shadow, adds to the sense of depth and scale of this scene.
